Let's go to work

The 'Flagship' of the course fleet - 2 days

THIS IS THE OPTIMUM COURSE.

It’s long enough to learn the skills to make a first class presentation and short enough to be not too long away from your work.

Over the years, it’s been the most popular and widely accepted course.  For the maximum number of eight participants on it, it has suited senior people from mining and agricultural companies, government departments, banks, insurance companies, corporations and accounting and law firms.

It’s full of first-rate material taught in a cumulative sequence, i.e. all the steps from the invitation to present, to the final act of delivery.  The  combination of real-world learning and the time to practise the lessons learnt pays each attendee real benefits.

The outcome expected?

Simple!  You will know how to make a first-rate presentation.  It’s all there . . . real-world techniques.  No fluff!  It’ll be then up to you to make it happen (and, if ever you need a hand with something, I’m only a phone-call away).

Here’s just some of what you’ll learn:

  •  The ‘big picture’ . . . the space in which your presentation will fit,
  • You’ll study your audience so exhaustively, that you will be almost able to ‘smell ’em’,
  • How to get off to a flying start . . . and why you must,
  • Make your material hit the mark with your audience (this is the heart of the course),
  • How to use visual aids (PowerPoint et al) properly,
  • How to use ‘light & shade’ (this is a huge topic, and barely covered elsewhere)
  • What rules you should never break,
  • How to leave them wanting more, and
  • Lots, lots more.

You will be, as many people have before you, so glad you were on the course.

“Yep.  Great course.  Actually take tools home.  First time from any course I’ve done.”

Richard Brown, Rural Manager, Rabobank
Toowoomba, Queensland

The refresher course - 4 hours

This course is exactly what it says it is . . . a refresher course.

It aims to remind you of and practise the presentational techniques that matter.  The course can handle up to four people, though, for 95 per cent of the time, I’ve found that most often I’ve been working with just one person . . . usually an MD or head of a division.

Your needs are what determines the course syllabus.  I can solve any presentational problem or issue you have.  The session usually follows a three  part format:

  • 1.  disclosure and discussion of and about your needs,
  • 2.  I video you making two very short talks which I critique after the mid-session break, and
  • 3.  I deal with all the issues you raised and cover the nine techniques that every presenter should be aware of and employ.

The great opportunity this session offers is dedicated one-on-one assessment, professional advice and time to practise.  You will know exactly what you need to do to present like a champion.

Good investment of half a day.  Refreshed skills long forgotten or not learnt in the first place

The 1 day course

This course is packed with top-level material

If there isn’t the time or – perhaps – the budget for a two day course, then this one day version is an ideal compromise.  All the vital elements are covered, so you will know enough to make a first-rate presentation.  Your first presentation will be video-assessed.

As much as possible, you’ll be on your feet practising the skills that will drive your next presentations (and thrill you in the process).

This course features the “4-90” (I’ll explain on the course what the numbers stand for), Owen’s inventive design to help you make an entirely impromptu presentation.

By day’s end you will know how to make a seriously decent presentation.

“Very enjoyable and entertaining delivery of an important skill.  We were thoroughly engaged the whole day.”

Ben Williams, GM Corporate Services, Horizon Power
Perth, WA
